Music at Abbots Cross
Music is a highly valued part of life in Abbots Cross. We have two choirs and many opportunities for children to experience and play a variety of musical instruments.
Junior choir
This choir is made up of children from P3&4 and we meet each Tuesday from 2-3pm. Mrs Ruddock and Mr Nicholl take these rehearsals and we have a lot of fun learning new songs and preparing for performances.
We sang at both the KS1 Nativity play and the KS2 carol service. At the moment we are practicing for our role as the chorus in the P7 play ‘A hint of Snow white’.
"I like singing the songs. My favourite song is the 'Pizza Song', because I love pizza and singing makes me happy" - Lilia, P3
"I like singing and I like most of the songs. My favourite is 'I'm Ready to Go' - Colton, P3

Senior choir
The P4-7 choir meets every Thursday and is led by Mrs Ruddock and Mrs Griffith. We have been very fortunate to have been invited to perform at the Grand Opera House during the pantomime and to entertain the residents at Clonmore house. This year the P5’s will be taking part in the Peace Proms at the SSE arena in Belfast. They will be singing alongside other local schools and will be accompanied by the cross border orchestra. Miss Todd has been working hard along with Mrs Taggart and Miss Gault to prepare the children for this very exciting performance.
Instrumentalists
Mrs Gul is our violin teacher and she works with our string players every Wednesday. Some of our senior violinists are preparing to compete in the Ballyclare Music festival. Mrs Edgar visits on a Friday to support all our string players with an extra lesson. Some of our children are preparing for their graded music exams.
Miss Hanna teaches woodwind and we have children learning flute and clarinet. These children enjoy their lessons every Monday and some are working towards graded music exams.
